Divorce & family matters

Understand the assets—and the obligations.

A financial settlement should be considered alongside living costs, support and the steps needed to carry it out. Start with the categories of property and obligations involved, rather than a target number alone.

Real estate and ownership history

Identify the properties involved, how they are financed and whether there are ownership or use questions. Include property outside Florida in the initial discussion.

Property division

Retirement and investment accounts

Let us know the types of accounts, supporting records and any proposed division. Different assets may require different implementation steps.

Financial interests

Support and future cash flow

Discuss recurring income, expected living costs and the distinction between accessible funds and assets that may be difficult to convert to cash.

Alimony questions

Children and family arrangements

Parenting decisions remain important alongside financial issues. Identify the current routine, agreed terms and any outstanding disputes.

Parenting plans

A useful first financial inventory.

  • Real estate, investment and retirement account categories
  • Business interests or property in another state
  • Existing agreements and questions about ongoing expenses

Your first conversation

Know what to expect.

Start with a call or a consultation request. Our intake team will help you understand the next step and coordinate an appointment with Gary.

  1. Contact the intake team.

Tell us the type of matter, whether anything has been filed and whether a deadline is approaching. Please do not send detailed case narratives or confidential documents through the website.

  2. Discuss the issues with Gary.

Bring your questions and a broad picture of your priorities. Ask intake what to prepare and how any requested documents should be provided securely.

  3. Decide on representation.

If the firm can take your matter, discuss the scope of work, initial retainer and billing terms before engagement. Booking a consultation does not itself retain the firm to handle your case.

Boca Raton is in Palm Beach County, while GFC LAW’s office is in Broward County. Our office location does not determine your case’s venue. Identify any existing case and its assigned court when you call.

Before you call

A few common questions.

What if we own property in more than one state?

Identify each property’s location, ownership and financing, and mention any related proceeding. The consultation can address what information is needed and whether the matter calls for additional professional or jurisdiction-specific input.

Does your Fort Lauderdale office mean my case must be in Broward?

No. The location of the lawyer’s office does not itself determine the appropriate court. Tell intake where any case is pending and bring the relevant notices so filing and hearing arrangements can be addressed for your situation.

How much will representation cost?

Representation is a separate engagement. The initial retainer and ongoing billing depend on the matter and will be discussed before you decide to hire the firm. A retainer is not a promise of the total cost of a divorce.

How long could my divorce take?

Timing depends on the issues, financial information, cooperation between the parties and the court schedule. We can discuss the factors affecting your situation at the consultation; there is no single timeline that fits every case.
